Dear Fashionasia: I think I'm ready to make-up....

Once awhile I do get really sweet comments from my blog readers. Also, once awhile I get readers who post me questions. I must say that it is quite flattering to have people come to you for advice. Although I am aware and i'm sure my readers are aware that I am no professional, but what i can offer is my sincere and real advice from my little pocket of experience. So today Ms.Fashionasia is playing Dear Thelma! woohooo....

Since, this particular enquiry touches my heart in many ways, I've decided to make a long post out of it.

The enquiry goes like this and i quote:

"Anonymous said...

hi! great blog! love it. erm, i just want to ask you something...i`m 19 & believe it or not,ok, maybe you should,i never wore makeup..EVER..well, maybe a lipgloss but I want to know what kind of makeup is the best for beginners like me since I`m still not working & using my parents money? thanksss =) "

ah.....sweet teens, 19 and yet to touch make-up. I'd say "good for you!!"
Personally, I've used thick and heavy performance make-up every since I was what......like 5??!! I've used make-up for as long as I could remember basically due to my involvement in dancing and performances that I can even make-up blind folded!! By age 8 I already know what was foundation and liquid liners!!

As much as I adore beauty products, I value "natural beauty" much more. So my advice to Ms.Anonymous is....."IF" you have great skin, dont bother with make-up!! The most you should invest in is a good lipstick/gloss....and thats it. Forget about foundations, forget about any form of make-up items.....but if you like to enlarge your eyes and make it flicker worthy, perhaps a little liner and mascara will do the trick. That i find Is more than enough already.

I'm a strong advocate for natural beauty. I like everything natural, believe me I dont even like to do anything to my hair and I have mine au'naturale all the time, havent dyed them for almost a decade!

If you are still studying, I dont see any reason why you should make-up and also since you're saying that you're still living on your parents, really there isnt any point to spend so much on make-up. I know I may sound very "aunty" and can rattle on like and old hag!! but trust me, you'd come to your senses and thank me when you reach 30 and still have beautiful skin :)

Make-up undeniably is God-sent only for those with flawed complexion. But once you "start" to make-up, its unstoppable. Meaning, if you're ready to start experimenting with make-up, you must be ready for
No.1:continueous investment a.k.a extra expenses
No.2: Extra time needed to get ready all the time
No.3: You won't be able to go out of the house without make-up anymore.
No.4: better skin-care to counter the side-effects of make-up (dry skin, dull skin..etc)

With that said, if you think you are ready for make-up. I will make the recommendations below:

These recommendations are for those young (non-problematic skin) but want to learn the basics of make-up.

1. Make-up base
Although foundation is really wonderful once you have found the one suitable for your skin and that blends and matches your skin tone. I would not recommend you to try any. Leave the skin looking natural and unclogged, I like the youthful radiance young skin has to offer.

However, to cover up blemishes, spots, freckles, dark under-eye circles..etc. You can buy a good concealer and just dab a few dots to cover-up those areas.

The body shop stick concealer is a good one to try. They look exactly like a lipstick and it can last a pretty long time.

2. Blushes
This is optional but if you like to have rosy cheeks and look like cute japanese schoolgirls. Blushes is the trick. However, I really dont want to push this to amatures because if you don't know how to put them on, you'd end up looking like a clown. Hmm....ok....if you dont have the confidence, skip it. But a tip about blushes, always buy those with HUGEEEE brush....small little brushes cannot do anything for your cheeks. Alternatively, you can buy a blusher brush on its own (best bet).

3. Eyes
1. Liner/shadow
I find that, just a little liner will do the trick and therefore there is no need to invest in eyeshadow because once you buy one......you'd think that you need to cover every color there is on the face of the earth to match every damn blouse you have. BIG INVESTMENT!!
hehe.....so save it. You don't need funky colors, trust me. I have many pallettes that is untouched. Go for save colors like the basic black and white. Silky girl has this color-duo called "ying yang" which is a duo-combination of a black and a white shadow color. It retails at about less than RM15. Should be good enough for ALL occasions. However I have yet to try them so I'm not so sure if it is that easy to work on. However, I do have a white-shimmer creme-based eyeshadow in a tube of white that is so virsitile, I can carry it anywhere I go and just smudge some on my eyelids and i'm good to go! But, Its a japanese brand and I cant seem to find it in Sasa anymore.

This is an example of a creme based shadow that you can try, this may not be available in Malaysia but look for something similar. Get simple colors. I prefer white. But you can get a light blue if you like as it is easier to match with clothes.
Dont need to use mascara untill later years lah.....Its very messy. :)
For liners, hmmmm......perhaps you can skip this too if you're a beginner, however if you like, you can try the Silkygirl Funky Eyelights Pencil. They have a whole range of colors, can be used as liner or even shadow color.

4. Lips
Of all make-up items. I'd say that a good lipstick will do all the trick. Even on lazy days, before you go out just put on some gloss and you're ready to go. Can't recommend any colors because you have to find the perfect one that suites your skintone. To prevent chapped lips, use lipgloss. Else, look for moisturizing lippy.

Now there....I guess that pretty much covers my answers to Ms.Anonymous. Hope it helps!

Luv,

Fashionasia

My New Peep Toe

Teehee.....bought another peep toe!!
Hmm....don't know why the color doesnt show here....but its actually very gorgeous. Its white with green chinese flowers and gold hems. The tie-o-ribbon on the side in gold really gave it the oomphhh factor. I'm all for details.....and I love unconventional designs too..... There is another one kinda similar but they are platform wedges and with a big bronze ribbon at the back. I'd probably bought that one if hubby didn't like this one more. ya rite.....i'd probably end up buying both if hubby wasnt around!! Anyway, I totally fall for the shoes and good ol hubby bought them for me... :)
Oh and if you look at the picture, there's a bamboo carry bag behind. Hubby insisted he buy them for me since it was 50% off. I didn't even take a second look at it but hubby did!! and he said its pretty.......what was i suppose to say? no?? you must be kidding me....a girl can never have enough bags.....and shoes.....hehe :) ah... bliss.....

Kate My Color Shadow

Recently, If you noticed, there is a new cosmetic brand in Malaysia called "Kate" .
Kate is from japan, a brand name under Kanebo cosmetics.

I must say that I'm quite interested in Kate's products especially their eye-range. I find that their eyeshadow palletes are gorgeous with strong defined colors and combinations.

I bought their MyColor Shadow. Which actually, to me is kinda expensive because I have to buy the holder saperately and 2 colors that I can place on the holders. The holder itself cost about RM5++. Then the individual colors about RM15++ each. So its rather expensive. However, I like the shadow-sticks because it is so easy to bring along. Its just like the size of a pen.

I really love the shadow colors. I bought a black, brown and bronze for a more natural color. The Black seems to be very popular as it was snapped up so fast and I had to wait like 2 weeks to get it. Dropped by a couple of sasa outlets and still couldnt find it.

Though I like the color as it is very soft and subtle. I wasn't entirely satisfied with the black. I'd like for it to be alot darker so that I can skip the liners and just use it as is. But it is not dark enough for me.

The girl from the Sasa Bangsar introduced me to this pallete

I almost bought it because she thought me a really lovely way to make smokey-eyes with the palletes. But sadly, they were out of the color that I wanted.

Oh well, probably will try it out if I happend to find any Kate counters. Kate is now available in Malaysia in all Sasa outlets, Watsons too. I also saw a counter at U-Parkson.

After browsing the website, I'm absolutely tempted to try out their liners too

and the girls were talking about how the white liners can amazingly enlarge your eyes .....Will try that out too... :)

I gave up searching and It came back to me....

Have you ever experience loosing a URL and to frantically search for it but to no avail you totally gave up after trying thousandssssss of keywords as well as skimming through pages over pages of google search??????

Well, I have and ugggghhhh!!!!!! it is NOT a goood feeling AT ALL.

The story goes like this. About a month or so ago, I chanced upon a local Malaysian e-commerce website and I really like what I saw....ya know selling beauty products and all... So couple weeks back, I tried to look for the site again.....and my bad, i did not bookmark it nor do I remember the URL. I remembered "something like it" but not entirely correct. So I tried many many key words to find it. Even the exact keywords I remember I used that led me to that site but it did not appear!!! I was absolutely frustrated. And I gave up.

Sooooo.....a while ago, I suddenly remember about this incident again and thought I'd give it another try by putting the same keywords and google it. Lo and behold.....it appeared on search result No.3. Wakakakaa.....so happy laaaa!! Now this made me wonder. Was I blind or was it google that is messing around with me.

Btw, this site I was talking about....

I found this

Slashed price and discount. Now at only RM39.
Should I buy it my dear fashionistas??????

p.s. No sorry will not tell u the site addie yet!! kekekeke......just in case u notty people beat me to it and grab all.....leave me here sulking.....:P

Giddy me

Woke up today feeling giddy...and heaty all over my body. So i took a day off.
Seriously, who would still wanna work for a boss who is so inconsiderate of your feelings and started making his own conclusions over what I do and saying that i'm incompetent and all.....while most of the time HE IS IN CHINA having a smashing time with his mistress........he doesnt even know what i'm doing. Does he know that i go back home late.....up till 11pm even at times...and most times nothing less than 7pm. He doesnt, and the point is, he doesnt even bother to find out from my immediate superior. Who appreciated me the most of all employees. I pity him when i leave. gaah....enough about work...i'm gonna quit and be my own boss. Produce a baby or two and be merry.

Weighted myself today and oooolalaa....i'm 3kg lesser now!! yey....2more Kgs to go!
But actually, don't envy me....I lost my appetite and eating average of 1 meal per day. I feel weak and lousy. I'd rather gain back my 3kgs. Perhaps next week with a string of birthday bashes and buffet's lining up.....I'm sure i'll gain back my 3kg in 1 week! :>

I made a quick dash to 1U today. Bought a Swatch Irony the latest 2006 fall collection watch for dear hubby's coming birthday and a Bonia wallet. RM290 + RM149 = RM 439 total damage. Hubby see I love you so much!

Despite being giddy the whole day....i still manage to shop and bought myself a pair of brown trousers frm Soda Exchange from Uparkson. 50% off mah......

Black Velvet Peep Toe Pumps

Pumps are normally not my kinda thing...what more velvet pumps.....
but a gal's gotta have everything there is to have to be satisfied...haha..
Just kidding......
I don't know what was it but this pair of pumps was just screamingggggggg at me and so I asked the sales girl to take my size. Slip them on..
and....wow.....gorgeous....immediately bought them although the price was steep. RM69.90 and only 10% discount. It was black with silver linings!!! My favourite combination. I just have to have it. From the angle of the picture it kinda looks like its about an inch tall but its actually 3 inch high. Think Va-va-voom emkayyy.

Oh ya, the second pic is my illustration of a fashion faux pax. The "Price Tag". You see....many a times when I was admiring a women's sandals and it totally put me off when i caught sight of her "price tag" unremoved. I mean. ewwwwww ......Cannot tahan. Its like wearing your new baju with the price tag still on. So memalufyingkan right? Well.....its the same concept. Don't be lazy lah....just remove the tag......it looks as if you accidentally walked over sticky gum.

Despondent

Its hurtful
the things he said
the sarcasm....unbearable
he really thinks so lowly of me?
never knew the burden i have on my shoulders
the whole department....they depend on me
my work....the work of my hands.....they feed them
but he will never know
because prepossessed thinking is destroying my dignity
such profound hopelessness, dejection....

I'm not very good at writing....
but when evens happens that triggered my emotions,
i tend to write in this form....
because i need to channel my emotions out,
but i cant tell you the whole story! its too revealing Id feel naked....
So bits n pieces revealed but not the whole picture...
I know my faithful readers can feel me...
they know when i'm happy
they know when i'm sad
thanks for listening...thanks for being there when i have no one to turn to
i know i always have you

Ya it happend....
awhile ago....despondent event that triggered tears...
but I held it back....I have no time to cry
I've got appointment to go to....
crazy me....
being shelled at by the very person that you're working your ass off for.....
such irony in life.....
quickly i pretend to have an eyesore and reached out for my eyedrops...
i squeezed a few drops on each eye...
but in fact i was trying to conceal the teardrops thats squeezing its way out against my will...

thumped my chest and off i go......battle for money....
the very money that i bring in to him
and the very him that treated me like shit

ya....thats life
just gotta take it in.....with a pinch of salt...

Johnsons Pure Essentials mini face powder

Innitially I wanted to just scrap this off and forget i ever bought this...........oh crap I thought.....but then again......I think that I shouldn't be too pampered with branded stuffs......this isnt crap....it is pretty decent actually.

Sooooo....I bought this from Watsons at about RM7 something (cant remember exactly). Definately below RM10. I thought it was a trial pack or something.......
It comes with pretty colors. Peach, White, Pink and Blue.
Now don't think that the colors are just the color of the casing, the powders are of the same color as the casing too!! It really beats me that who would wanna dab on blue colored powder on their face?!!! but well.......err.............maybe its made for little smurfettes?? hehe....I don't know

Anyway, I bought the peach one (the best decision) because the colors is actually very light and more geared towards the fair side. The compact powder comes with a miserable sponge (what do ya expect??) but it does the job to pat on greasy face to mattify. There is no mirror (what do ya expect?!?).
But the good thing about this mini compact in my opinion is that it is small. You can buy as many as you want as it is cheap. You can put it everywhere!!1 like 1 on each handbag or something......maybe 1 in the gym bag........1 in the car..........1 in the office......Totally affordable! no problemo. Anyway its only for emergency dabbing purposes to blot out those oily T-zone and refresh your face.

I also totally recommend this to tween-teens. You know, girls who's just learning about make-up and wanna try it out....And also because they are still spending their parents money! and they really shouldnt be buying expensive stuffs like chanel or diors....this is perfecto for tween/teens.

I also think it could be perfect to bring about for trips....you know....like say if you go to redang and all that but u need to dubb off the grease frm your face before posing for a picture?? hehe....vainpot? :P I know!!! but this is 1 compact that you can stuff in your pouch or something and not fearing that you'll loose it...because even if you did......it doesnt matter!!!! go buy another one... :) yey...

Chill........Cos He's Still Working On Me

There really ought to be a sign upon my heart,
"Don't judge me yet, there's an unfinished part."
But I'll be perfect, just according to His plan,
Fashioned by the Master's loving hand....

(excerpt from the song " He's Still Working On Me" WORDS & MUSIC: Joel Hemphill)

I guess the lyrics above pretty much sums up what I wanted to say.
I guess people tend to be judgemental irregardless
I guess they fail to see the bigger part of me
I guess it is not easy to be nice
It is even harder to speak the truth and whats on your mind
Useless to go on defensive
Paper do not bring you places
but abundance of grace makes the impossible possible and plausible

Working in Malaysia vs. Working Overseas

Recently my good friend have just completed her phD and taking her baby step towards working life somewhere in europe.

I'm very proud of her as I know she will do great in her work and life.
But such news really made my ponder over my own life.

5 years ago I had wanted to persue further education after my graduation but due to financial constraint and discouragement frm my then fiance (now hubby). I stepped into working life earning a mere RM 1,700 as a freshgrad.

After 5 years of struggling through work life i guess now I manage to climb up the working ladder and achieve significant increase in my salary. But so what??! Comparing to my friend, who had just grad but with a phD......though I have no idea what salary range is she drawing, I'm 100% sure that she's earning big bucks and much more than my measely income. Why?? Because, lets just assume that she is being payed a freshgrad salary of say 2k (i'm sure its more)

So if 2k in pounds would be 2000 x 7 = RM 14,000

WOW. Nowonder all the Malaysians study abroad dont want to come back lah....
Even if the standard of living is higher over there comparitively, if you can manage to save say 200pounds only per month, you'd be saving RM1400 per month already.

NOWONDER all the doctors and jimmy choo's that Malaysia wants back .....well...... Don't want to come back lah!

Sigh.......i'm not being green but i feel ......lousy loh.....
Because it makes me think......why am i working so hard for?? All the slogging and experience of 5 whole years......and I'm nowhere near her 5 figure salary. Sometimes you may want to blame education or the lack of paper qualification for things, but i assure you it is not. I have a business friend who is a Master degree holder with say 3 years work experience. And he makes much lesser than myself which puzzles me.

After my trip to aussie, I really was tempted to migrate and work in aussie because australians don't work past 5pm!!!! Never happend to me before in my life.....

Oh ya btw, its a public holiday today for Selangor. Nuzul Al'Quran. Slept till 11am!! ah........i feel lazy today....Make that lazy hazy dazy.

Diet Update: Yey! lost 2 KG already. I feel good. The hugeeeee tyre of fats overhanging my torso area (above the tummy) is gone!!! Other parts seems to still be the same....trying to get rid of those cellulite thingy over my thighs......wonder how do i do that.

Liquid Liner

I know I have recommended this before in the past...
but Ms.Nyonyapenang asked me twice the same question already....first time can ignore lah hehehe.... but second time liao....so she must really be looking for a good liquid liner

Seriously women, You don't use mascara but you use liquid liner?!! aiyooo!! Liquid liner is the MOST difficult make-up item to master you know!!! I gave up using liquid liner....I much prefer using pencil liners especially making sure it is not too sharp so that I get a good bold line and dubb and spread them over wider... thats how i usually do my liners. Because I totally FAIL putting on liquid liner. So difficult to make them even and equal for both eyes.

But if you must, which liquid liner do i recommend??

The one from Thebodyshop. Absolutely.

Why? Simple. The tip is hard so it helps define the line better. Secondly, there are 2 colors to choose from. Black and Dark brown. Both are equally good as the color is deep and dark. Lastly, it is not too cheap and not too expensive either. I've tried the cheap ones frm sasa and well.....cant quite compare to the one from bodyshop. For higher-end brands I guess I really don't know because I really think they're overpriced.... unless i find out the justification of the price one day i'd let you gals know ok.

*Fashionasia winks at Nyonyapenang* Now go get it. :)

Dejavu Fiberwig 3D Mascara

Mascara is getting extremely popular especially among the asians lately. Naturally asians have shorter and sparse lashes and often wish that we have longer lashes so that we'd look cuter when we flicker our eyes. hehe...
Some people even goes to the extend of putting on fake lashes for beauty sake.
Personally I've never like mascara because it is very difficult to put on, waste too much time and gets clumpy and ruins other parts of the face make-up easily if you don't have steady hands. Ladies you DO know what I mean right?

That is the reason I hardly put on mascara's for work as it is too time consuming. However lately I've learned to do it better and my hands are more sturdy so sometimes I do get to put on my mascara before zipping off to work (on days when I have that little spare time by waking up a bit earlier). Really when you curl your lashes and put on a coat of mascara, it can make your whole face look different and brighten up.

The Dejavu Fiberwig is my new collection of mascara. It is japan's no.1 selling mascara at the moment and have just made its way to Malaysia. Sasa is the only exclusive retailer selling them at the moment. Knowing that it is japan's no.1 selling mascara, I was really curious to know what's so good about it?!!

According to the salesgirl, the Dejavu Fiberwig contains more fibre that helps the lashes to have the curl effects and increase in volume. If applied multi-coat, it will have the effect as of those fake lashes. Long, seperated, curled up nicely. No clumps so she promised. Also, I was told that it is much easier to wash off.

There were 2 colors to choose from. Pure Black and Brown.
I bought the pure black. So far i've used it once and hmmm......its nice and yes true to what it says, it is not clumpy. As i've only used it once i do not have much to say as yet but i think i like it already. I'm gonna try for multi-coat tomorrow and we'll see if my lashes suddenly lenghten and curls up like dolls or not. :)
According to the sales girl, you should put on 1 layer and let it dry for about 10 seconds and top with another layer.
Will keep you guys updated on how I like it and probably will compare to some other mascaras that I have.

Guise No More

Was away from the blogesphere for the past week and when I came online today, I was devastate to find out that it was over for Guise , one of my favourite fashion blog reads. I guess being a fellow fashion enthusiast, Missy-J was an inspirational writer to me and her fashion findings are often unique and tasteful. I was just kinda sad to see the end of it. Missy-J is one girl that really have the eyes for the runway and knows what she is talking about.

Wishing missy-J all the best in whatever she does!

New Beauty Loot

OK....what was just a passing-by Sasa outlet became an unintentional purchase for the week for me.
Lookey what I havey here...

Well, all these set me back about RM120 something.....
I will wrote more about them tomorrow.

To sum it all up, I found mango scented shampoo and conditioner!!!! RM29 for both and a free transparent carry bag frm Sasa. The scent is very mild and i love the texture of my hair after washing. The conditioner can work as hair mask too. Makes my hair extremely soft after wash. Love it!!

2. Dejavu Mascara
This is a mascara frm Japan. Supposedly this is the No.1 Selling Mascara in Japan now. It is very famous over there. Cost RM49 though.....quite expensive right? But it came with a free gift which is the red color pouch thingy to keep the mascara so its quite ok lah.

2. Another Cybercolor Lipstick. The one i've been using is ALMOST used up! can you believe it? I hardly finish off a lipstick and if i do, it must be really good. Love the moisturizing effect and so i'm trying the new one with honey as one of its moisturizing ingredients to prevent chapped lips.

3. Cybercolor lipgloss....(this one kena conned to buy la just to make the numbers over RM120 entitled to 2 chops whatever that means)

OK.......thats all the beauty updates for now.
Yey!! Friday!!! Have a great weekend people!!

Short Update

hi people....
hows the new environment?? sucks big time...
I have no freedom to do anything at all!! Tight scrutiny!!!! so boring!!!!Cannot blog when i'm bored..... and not to mention the place is kinda stuffy and hot and...argggghhh........I cannot survive at a cubical with irritating workmates and lots of disturbances........
I hope the year ends soon so that I can be back to my cosy place.
I really feel like crying......working days willl be dreadful from now till end of the year.
I look forward to the weekend even more.
I've never felt soooooooo burdensome to go to work before....not at my present company for the past 5 years!! This is the first time I feel that i'm dragging my feet...
I know i'm whining like princess bimbo but hehe...sorry to leave the vibe of negativity around but....heh....just need to let it out.

Diet updates:
Aiyaa...no time to jot down what I've been eating...
Doesnt seem to work even I'm eating sooo little per day, i've only lost about 1kg.
But in any case, the depressing state im feeling left me with not much appetite, just like yesterday i've only had 1/2 of a sandwich for the wholeeeeee day at work. Which is kinda good for my diet. ;)

Fashion Updates: some other time!! Really no time AT ALL!!!
