XOXO

Contrary to popular believe that Ms.Fashion will go shopping on merdeka holiday.....

It is not true!! Well, partly....
I've actually learnt my lesson couple of years back when I had a lunch appointment set with my galfriends in Midvalley since it was a public holiday and we thought it was a good time to catch-up on each other. Welpp....BAD BAD decision. Midvalley was like super duper jam packed......
We were caught in the jam OUTSIDE the surrounding aread of midvalley for 1 hour!! and that we were not even attempting to get in....we were attempting to get out of that place!!

Sooo....ever since then, shopping on Merdeka day is a NONO.

As such, Ms.Fashion decided to be a good wife/daughter-in-law/sis-in-law (watever outlaws)...
and to cook lunch. Since i stay about 2 minutes away from 1 of the shopping centre, i quickly dash over to buy my chicken and koeyteow and potatoes wat not for making koeyteow soup early in the morning. Even then the crowd was enourmous!!!! Frightening sight was that the trolley bay was even empty!! first time ever ive seen such a scenario for such a huge store. And queing up to pay, needless to say was approximately half-an-hour long....

Since I was ALREADY in the shopping centre, I dropped by to buy myself the Freshlook contact lenses as recommended by IreneK & Skay. Buy 2 Free 1!! :> What a bargain.
I realized that FreshLook have a more natural color at that the color is really soft while FreshKon have a more bright and strong bold colors. So if you want a more natural look you should go for FreshLook but if you like to dramatise your eyes perhaps for party or something you can go for FreshKon. I got 3 colors, Gray, Hazel and Green. Actually was really dying to try a Blue but ....out of stock....chey.... Next time la.

Then.....i got distracted..... and ended up with something else....

XOXO!! First time i bought something from XOXO. Normally the price is too exhorbant that I'm so reluctant to whip out my credit card. But today I was sucked in and bought a "3 item for RM100" promotion, which was pretty good because if go by the normal price it would be about RM300 something. And don't you just love the paperbag!! I love anything with hearts!! :>
The handbag was really beautiful too but I really held myself back.....maybe next time.

OK.....time to do the role of goody wifey and cook dinner, already had some chicken seasoned with tumeric&curry....gonna go bake it now. Argh....i hate tumeric ...my nails are all yellow now.. boohoo!!!!

Happy Merdeka My Malaysia!!

Getting it Right

So just like how we reminded the people last year that MERDEKA is not the birthday of Malaysia.
August 31st,1957 was the day that the Federation of Malaya (Peninsular) gain its Independance.
So MERDEKA as its original meaning "Freedom" ....which means that it is actually a celebration of being free from the British ruling.
While Malaysia was born(formed) in 1963 (16th Sept), where Singapore, Sabah, and Sarawak were added to the federation, creating the Federation of Malaysia. Then, technically its got nothing to do with the people in Sabah & Sarawak.....hmm...then how come this year's host state for the Merdeka celebration is Sarawak? hehe...some food for thought there.

Read more about it here

So thats a brief history of Malaysia and Merdeka.

Moving on next.
I was really thinking hard of a Merdeka story for the past 1 week but sadly but i couldnt see Malaysia in a bright light in the recent years. When I want to think of something good, i had to dig deeper into my earlier years while i was still in the kampung. I guess my almost 10 years living in the hussle and bustle of city life here in KL, did not leave me any fond "i love Malaysia" story apart from the awesome gastronomy affairs.

So be it, let my story be a reminicense about the good 'ol days in the small little kampung. That is where I want to remember and love Malaysia for.

We used to live in the small kampung where my mom was working in a corporate office while dad was a civil servant. However living in a malay dominiant location, my dad was perhaps the only chinese in his work place. While my mom had a mixture of Malay, chinese and indian co-workers that we grew pretty close to. My dads best friend was En.Nafi while I love to hang around my mom's office with Uncle Kumar and Pakcik Asin...
I remember Uncle Kumar as a handsome man and he was very kind, he took care of me and even carried me across the steam while we went for picnic at the waterfall. Picnic at the waterfall was a common event for us back then. I love waterfalls, the cooling clear stream.....beautiful stones....homemade sandwitches and air syrup

During durian season, we will normally be invited by my parents Malay colleagues over to eat Nasi Durian! oh boy its heavenly i tell you....and my favourite season was definately Hari raya because we get to wear beautiful clothes and drive to the even more kampung area where pakcik asin stays.... I love visiting his wooden bungalow house. Every year he will make his famous beef rendang and nasi dagang, yumyum my favourite and many many more yummy cookies and sweets. And we'll have air bandung or air syrup. and the best part is we eat on the floor with our bare hands!! (the food is on the plate lah duhh)
So those were the beautiful days that I really want to remember Malaysia as.

You know city folks tend to think that people from the more rural areas like terengganu or kelantan to be less racial tolerant....but let me tell you that it is not true. All the races live in harmony and much more sincerity than people here in the city. People tend to have this wrong notion that kampung folks are barbaric but the truth is those living in the concrete jungle are the real barbarians.

So in the spirit of Merdeka this year, I hope that we will all be reminded that this is the day where our first prime minister Tunku Abdul Rahman the leader of the Alliance Party, a loose coalition of Malay, Chinese, and Indian parties, led us to the independance.

To me, MERDEKA is a word that should never be splited apart because if you split the word. you'll get the word MERDE and KA

www.dictionary.com explains the meaning :

1. Merde

Main Entry: merde
Part of Speech: interjection
Definition: crap!, shit!; an expression of annoyance, disgust, or exasperation
Etymology: French
Usage: slang

2. Ka
ka
// Pronunciation Key - Show Spelled Pronunciation[kah] Pronunciation Key - Show IPA Pronunciation
–noun Egyptian Religion a spiritual entity, an aspect of the individual, believed to live within the body during life and to survive it after death.

For better understanding, refer to this blog post by brader Kakicucuklangit

Conclusion, when split, MERDEKA becomes
MERDE KA = Shit Spirit

With this, I end my story wishing Malaysia a happy Merdeka and may you
never split in nation...buck-up on the spirit of unity because we can achieve greater things united.
United we stand, divided we fall.

Sekian Terima Kasih.

Shitty Sight

I'm feeling pretty moody and shitty right now.

I just had my eyes checked and suprise suprise...... my short sightedness have increased by 100 freaking degree!!
That is A LOT for a short period of about 1 year?? since i last had my eyes checked. And I AM VERY UPSET about this.

To make things worst, I went to this shop in 1U but somehow non of the power that the guy prescribed seem to make my eyes feel comfortable. I felt dizzy and floating when I was wearing them thus I refused to the power he prescribed and wanted to get a slightly lower power that my eyes felt more comfortable, which was only about 25-50 deg increase of my existing power.
However when i was going to make my order, the girl told me that they will not gurantee the glasses because I insisted of a different power. So i asked her what if i felt dizzy and had to change it? she sayed id be charged RM120 for it. Wow.......normally they have a 2 weeks warranty at that if you're uncomfortable within the 2 weeks you are allowed to get it changed.

Soooooooooo I hasitated. And went to another optician for second opinion. Well, the machine told me the same. I had an 100 increase. :(
But i couldnt find any frames to my liking on that shop so i didn't go through the eye-checking process. I hate it.

So, i decided to buy myself new disposable lenses and test for myself if i'm ok with the new prescribed power.
As i've always been fond to try out blue color lenses, I bought a box of Freshkon BabyAqua.

Really lovely color although it kinda make me look like an alien, i tried it anyway the next day.
Less than an hour having them on, i felt funny on my right eye and discomfort. Went to the restroom to have them checked.....
While re-adjusting them, it just tore apart. Blardeee freaking tore on me!!!! I suspect its already torn when i bought them because i didnt do anything!!! And i'm not new to wearing lenses i know how to handle them what. Sheeshhh......RM50 down the drain in less than an hour.

Shitty or not you tell me?? I'm soooooo upset right now i wanna roar. GRRRRRRR

PS. Still no Merdeka post.....I'm still thinking. Was thinking and thinking and thinking but.....nothing good seems to be coming to mind. Sigh.........2 more days

Obligatory Siti Nurhaliza Post

I'm sorry to Siti Haters but.....i kinda like the girl so ......
Here's wishing Siti all the best in her marriage!

Those Siti fans can catch her wedding live tonight on TV3.

I really dont get the thing about the Siti vs. Ina/Mawi programme schedule
(TV3 vs. RTM/Astro)
I mean, don't you think that it is such an insult to par-up Ina/Mawi issue with Siti's wedding?
Siti is like wayyyyy up there and Ina/Mawi is just a newbie in the industry. And come-on, its a Wedding event for coconut sake! It doesnt matter if we hate or love the couple, its a wedding and wedding are the most beautiful event and everyone loves wedding! What more a celebrity wedding! Put the moral issues aside, even if its Paris Hiltons wedding everyone would totally want to watch it because every girl wants to see her Vera Wang gown and Jimmy choos right?!!

Secondly, I hope people will stop the bashing already and let them get on their lives. Although I do not know a thing about Datuk K, I'm sure there is a reason she chose him (she could do better in marrying Royalty). He is a Datuk who is unheard of untill his romantic involvement with the pop darling. That shows that he is not the show off type I suppose. Take a look at the Erra-Yusri wed? Everyone thought that they are made for each other and all the fans were very happy about the pair-up but still it came crushing down after 2 years.

Soooooooo, the moral of the story is to mind our own business and just enjoy her songs.....wish her well.....and thats all that we can do. Perhaps after eating more strawberries Siti can finally speak good english? hehe.......kidding ok....

PS. Will do an obligatory I love My Malaysia post soon in the spirit of Independance day.

Benefits Cosmetics

Good news girls. Benefits is in Malaysia!!

I've always been fond of Benefits cosmetics, especially the lovely pallettes small and thin enough to fit into your small purse.

The designs of Benefits cosmetics are very unique with the classic look and theme. Ah great. Finally i can get my hands on these pretty babies. But, these are pretty $$$$$ so.... I only encourage occasional indulgance. :)

Currently, you can find Benefits in Parkson, KLCC. I havent check them out yet but...will do in due time.
You can visit their website at http://www.benefitcosmetics.com

Back with a Tan and more about Gauchos

So I'm back with a good tan. My skintone is pretty evenly tanned with a hint of pink now. Love it. Sorry no beachy story. Just a good restful holiday. :>

Now about Gaucho Pants

I guess Malaysians may not know what are they. So for education sake, Gauchos are pants that look like this

Image from StyleFinds

OK get your eyes off of her shoes...i know its gorgeous but we're talking about them pants emkaayyy..

I couldnt understand why I can't find decent and lovely gaucho pants such as these here. To find a gaucho at all is a rare gem. I was really happy to find it over at LBB the other day. Although I thought RM39.90 was not exactly cheap. Buttttttt........I like the material, and its a rare find thus justified the price for me.

I love gauchos expecially for a casual day out or for a trip to the beach. And the best thing about Gauchos is that it does a great job at covering-up those ugly cellulite infested thunder thighs!!! kekekeke
The flowy feeling of the wide pants opening gives you this feeling of wearing a skirt, but without the risk of having them blown up by the wind. So if you're taking a stroll on the beach. It feels great. Plus it looks great pairing it with your bikini top. Its an alternative to boring ol pareo wraps.

Little.Black.Book

(pics taken from the blog. This should be the one in sri hartamas though)

I finally went to little.black.book for the first time. No its not a bookshop. Its a fashion shop!
I must say that I really like the line of clothings.
I browse through the racks of clothes and the prices. Hmm....not bad for a butique. The price was pretty reasonable.

I wonder why I never knew of the existance of this shop in Damansara Utama. Normally if i go to DU, i'll drop by "Amour". I like the clothes and the price of that shop.Very affordable.

So at LBB, I ended up buying myself a pair of goucho pants that i desired for a long time! It have been fashionable in the US for quite sometime but It seems that its only hitting Malaysian shores lately. I think LBB have the widest selection of capris...most of them around RM39.90 or RM29.90. So its pretty cheap.

I taken into liking for the working A-line skirts and bought 1 myself. I wore it yesterday and it fits my like a glove.....the material is great and felt soft and flows perfectly fitting my booty. :> I love it.

The brand manager of Little.Black.Book also keeps a blog and i think its great for her to take time to do that because it gives the customers a chance to feedback.

Great work Ashley! all the best.

This Weekend

........I'm turning a year older. :>

The best way to celebrate the gift of life is to be thankful and grateful for the simple gifts that life brings about.....In this lifetime Im thankful for so many things that life has bestowed upon me.

I'm thankful for so many things in life..:-

  • A husband who loves and adores me
  • My parents whom are still in the pink of health
  • A stable job and good salary
  • No debt
  • No lack
  • A house and a car I can call my own
  • Friends......real friends
  • holidays!!
  • and many many more
I'm contented....what more could a women ask for in life?!

My regular hair saloon-- Kimarie SS2

Decided to trim my hair on Saturday. So as usual I drove to SS2 at about 11am and drop by my favorite hair saloon-- Kimarie (SS2 branch)

I've been frequenting Kimarie SS2 for as long as I could remember.......Probably 10 over years already. But those days while still a student and el'cheapo (because no money wat), I normally go for the RM5 student cut. Teehee...... Kimarie is the largest hair academy in Malaysia and they take in lotsa students to learn hairstyling. By "Student cut" it means your hair would be cut and styled by students in the academy. As my style of haircut during schooldays wasn't very adventurous thus it was not a high risk to take so RM5 for a new cut + shampoo & blowdry, it was really worth it.

These days, as I'm a working lady, I have my own income and I can afford to pamper myself once a while so ya I've gradually advanced into going for the "Senior Cut".

I'm not sure about the pricing these days but in Kimarie there are basically 3 ranks to pick from.
1. Junior Cut
2. Senior Cut
3. Professional

Price I don't actually remember but its something to the range of RM15, RM25, RM45 (not sure but something like that lah)
I think the price is very reasonable as the place is clean, modern, there are also some seats with computers that allows you to surf the net while having your hair cut.

My normal routine would be to go for Option2, which is "Senior" and I pair that with hair treatment. Normally would cost about RM100. I used to get charged RM120 (20 bucks extra!!) just because I have extra long locks. hehe....But I do it once every quarter so its not that painful to the wallet. If not mistaken, through my conversation previously, the stylist will be promoted to "Senior" once they have 2 years of experience. And "Professionals" would be the really experienced ones.

What i like about going to Kimarie is that they change their stylist pretty often and therefore I'd get different stylist to do my hair each time. I like that because I like my hairstyle to look different if i'm actually spending good money on it. I don't like to have the same person doing my hair all the time. So Boringggg.

Another good thing about Kimarie is that most of the stylist are male! teeheeee.... I don't know about you but i personally prefer male hairstylist!!! Absolutely because i think they're talented! And also sub-reason is that you'd get cute-korean-actor-lookalike massaging your head while shampooing for you. *wink wink*

Anyhow, I got this pretty cute guy who did my hair this time. And he is actually pretty good as i love the outcome. Also, he automatically gave me a 15% discount !! Now I've NEVER had discounts before in Kimarie!!! Eventhough I'm quite a regular patron. So dude, you da man!! :>

I had a cut and treatment done and the bill came to about RM110 this round. Considerably cheap if you ask me. It cost me almost close to RM200 the previous time I was over at Cut-Inn couple months back(another saloon in SS2 that I tried, not bad also but old-fashion and quite expensive).

Soooo, if you're looking for a cheap and good haircut, you should give Kimarie a go.
A trip to the saloon always makes me feel great about myself because when your hair looks good, you feel good too!

Fashionasia flings hair and say I'm worth it!!

Sparkling Clean

Today after cleaning up the dishes, it occur to me that the hubby's plate is never clean.
As chinese, we were always told to finish up all the food on our plate. We must make sure that it is sparkling clean, otherwise when we grow up, our significant other will have spots on his/her face.
(or something to that effect la).
Soooo....... I was immediately reminded of this old folks tale.
Hmm.....nowonder i'm having pimples sprouting here and there.
HAH!!! Must make sure hubby finishes his food......and make sure its sparkling clean!!

Diorshadow Eyecolor

Here is something that I seldom write about amongst my vanity posts.... Eyeshadow !!
I do have a pretty desirable eyes, one that is relatively easy to paint on. However, apart from eyeliner and mascara I seldom make an effort to paint my eyes on normal work days. Hense, eyeshadow is not my favourite make-up item. But.......I do have my own pretty collection of eyeshadows from color palletes to tubes to pen-stick shadows such as this one, which is the one I'm showcasing for the day.

Strawberrynet

I have 2 colours. #157-Showroom Violet and #347-Model Green
Both of them are really pretty colors. I love the Violet as the color is really dreamy ....such soft sweet lilac.
As for the green, it is absolutely the prettiest green i've ever seen. I'd reckon the color to aquamarine as the color has a hint of blue in it thus making the green to actually look good on me. Normally I don't like green but this color is not too bright and imid just the right tint of green.
This shadowcolor pen comes with a brush applicator so applying the color is a breeze. The texture is also smooth and slightly powdery finish and shimmery too. The effect is lovely. Probably 1 of the better shadow colors I've used. Though I love the brush, I still like using my fingers to dab as it gives better precision. However, I really like that its a pen and not pallete making it easy for me to bring around.

Self Pampering Day

Phew...what a tough week for me.
Was sick most days this week but still had to work.....due to commitments.
Although I was totally surviving everyday on Panadol (for fever n flu) I didn't getto go to the doctors so no MC. Boohoo!

Thank God its Saturday already!
Its 1.30am now but i can't sleep because I just had my dinner. hehe....talk about weird timing.
Anyway, I've decided that 2morrow is self pampering day for me. I'm gonna drop by the hairsaloon and have a haircut later today. After I wake-up from my much deprived sleep that is. Well, its probably gonna be noon.
I'll decide later if im gonna need any threatment this time around. Else just a regular wash and blow would be fine.
Boy i love saturdays.

Have a great weekend! ! Cheers!!!

A safer place to stay

Refering to TheStar today "Creating Safe City is top priority"

What more can we ask for but a safer city to live in.

In deed the government's current innitiative to create a safer city is commendable. Of course, as usual, it did not come easy. Many lives had to be sacrificed to move our government to do something about the rising crime rate. My personal account definately did not trigger any responds. Why? because I was not hurt, and i did got get slashed, and i didn't die.

Sad but true that something must happen to trigger the nation to do something about it.
By something, i would expect more petrol services or more warning billboards about the consequences of murder...etc......
But.....i guess the government have only 1 track mind. CCTV, CCTV and more CCTV.
Now i know that CCTV doesn't come cheap and it is great at tracking down people. But thats my point, really. CCTV is good for "TRACKING" down people and helping the police solve cases.
It is good for "POST" incident. Thats my point. We don't want to spend more money only to be able to solve a case WHEN something happens. We want more solutions that can STOP criminals from doing their dirty tricks altogether. I know it isnt easy. Perhaps by installing CCTV the criminals may think twice before they act. BUT, some brainless nutcase couldnt care less about CCTV! Heck they don't even know what is CCTV!!!

I really don't know how the police force think, sometimes I feel like i want to stranggle them cops when I see them hiding in 1 corner around the bush "waiting" for some people to make an offense and then come-out to catch them. To me, this is NOT the way to educate the public. If you really don't want the public to break and offense, you should park yourself right in the open. When the public sees you, they will be extra careful to NOT break and offense.

I hope the government will spend money wisely and not on CCTV alone because that will only help increase CCTV sales. But the root of the problem will not be solved. Public education is important. They should be educated about the seriousness of the crime and be aware of the consequences of it all. Basically we want a peaceful society, and seriously after my personal snatch thief experience, it changed my outview of life. When i'm walking alone, I walk like a crazy women everytime. Looking left then right then left again.....walking few steps and looking back...I constantly feel as-if someone is following me. I get paranoid over little creeking sounds.....i get scared and jump when someone come up to me in a sudden.....After 3 years, I'm still traumatized. It doesnt go away. The emotional injury....its hard to heal.

Is Email an effective business tool?

This post is non-fashion related, however I do think so it is an important issue so I'll just go ahead with it.

Do you think that email is an effective business tool?
Personally, I do think so that email is the very most important business tool.
This is due to the course of my work, I rely heavily on email to convey my messages to my customers. Correspondence is critical and thus email, being immediate is the best tool at current. For example, I get to email quotations and proposals immediately and that will cut down my responds time to within a day. If lucky, I'd probably get my reply within the same day.

However, I do think so there are people out there who tend to disagree with my love for email as a business tool. What more a reliable one.
I can't deny that too. Having tones of spam everyday is such an annoyance. Sometimes they make you miss out your really important emails. Other times, email systems aren't very reliable, your email may not reach the intended recipient at all.And request receipt does not help all the time either.

What triggers me to write today's post is because recently, I find my emails getting less and less reliable. True and genuine emails are getting scarce, buried under multitude of spam.
Antispam solution is not 100%. If you want to rid of more spam, you may risk some of your important&genuine emails. If you set the sensitivity low, more spam will pass through.... Its all in the balance i guess and its up to the IT guy to decide.

We practice sending emails periodically to inform our clients on our project status. Sometimes some of the reports/emails needs interaction from the recipient in which we need their responds to the matter and subject raised. Normally we will specify that we need a responds from the customer to us in order to continue the next step. However I realized that most of our customers DO NOT RESPOND to email.

I'm getting really frustrated with this. I don't know what to think about email anymore. We've recently resorted to Fax instead of emailing. That's because Fax mostly will reach our intended recipient whilst email sometimes doesn't!! And.....Fax manage to invoke a responds as oppose to Email messages. (Not talking about return receipt ok.....I'm meaning actual responds)

The way things are going, I'm thinking that perhaps one day, email will no longer be essential and proper for business correspondence anymore and we will go back to the Faxing, Phone and maybe Skype...
Email? What email??? Such a nuisance.......Emails are for leisure....definately not for work anymore.......

What think you?

Back to reality

I'm back!
You know, the only thing on my mind since i'm back is to resign from my job and look for a job that is a foreign company but with office in PJ. That way, I'd get to travel often when I need to visit HQ.
I can't help but to compare our own country with OZ and...well, we fall short of course. Expecially in cleanliness, and town planning/road planning. How I wish not to come back. It's such a great place to stay. I guess the grass is always greener the other side.

Well, back to reality! Sigh........not very enthusiastic about that.

ps . Sportsgirl rawks!!
