29th Feb 2008 is the day women CAN propose to men!

Hi guys!

I just realized its 29th Feb today! It only happen once every 4 yrs so i better post this today!

ok....refering to the title..........hehe....not that women cannot propose to men these days la....but according to tradition, today is the day when women can propose to men! If they can't wait any longer....heheee

I stumbled upon this blog in technocrati and i thought its very interesting........I never knew about this special tradition, or also known as Sadie Hawkins day.

So i read up about it a little at about.com. I'd like to share them with my readers here......

Leap Year 2008

Leap Year has been the traditional time that women can propose marriage. In many of today's cultures, it is okay for a woman to propose marriage to a man. Society doesn't look down on such women. However, that hasn't always been the case. When the rules of courtship were stricter, women were only allowed to pop the question on one day every four years. That day was February 29th.

St. Bridget's Complaint

It is believed this tradition was started in 5th century Ireland when St. Bridget complained to St. Patrick about women having to wait for so long for a man to propose. According to legend, St. Patrick said the yearning females could propose on this one day in February during the leap year.

February 29th in English Law

According to English law, February 29th was ignored and had no legal status. Folks assumed that traditions would also have no status on that day. It was also reasoned that since the leap year day existed to fix a problem in the calendar, it could also be used to fix an old and unjust custom that only let men propose marriage.

The first documentation of this practice dates back to 1288, when Scotland passed a law that allowed women to propose marriage to the man of their choice in that year. They also made it law that any man who declined a proposal in a leap year must pay a fine. The fine could range from a kiss to payment for a silk dress or a pair of gloves.

Sadie Hawkins Day

In the United States, some people have referred to this date as Sadie Hawkins Day with women being given the right to run after unmarried men to propose.

Sadie Hawkins was a female character in the Al Capp cartoon strip Li'l Abner. Many communities prefer to celebrate Sadie Hawkins Day in November which is when Al Capp first mentioned Sadie Hawkins Day.

Greek Superstition

There is a Greek superstition that claims couples have bad luck if they marry during a leap year. Apparently one in five engaged couples in Greece will avoid planning their wedding during a leap year.

So ladies..........you can do it too!!! go ahead...today is your day....

Have a happy friday loves!

Malaysian Election-My thoughts

The news these days are pretty boring......all politics. Or, bloggers like to call them politikus... don't ask me why but i think its apt this year of the rat.... :o)

I'm not very political....I hate politics and all that jazz..........but i do know what I want as a Malaysian citizen.

You know it took my ages to jot down this entry.........I just have nothing to say about the coming election.........it doesn't interest me......i hate all the dirty tricks politicians play........the more i grow up, the more i realize how evil and filthy politics can be.......and the government can be so filthy it stinks......

I do hope the opposition parties win more this round so that the government will know that the public means business and we are no idiots...

It's really disturbing though to know that only 25% of the Malaysian population(out of those that is legit to vote) have registered to vote and............ the future of Malaysia lies in the hands of these 25%!!
Very...very disturbing....

I'm sorry i didn't register....I really am..........I wanted to vote....but i realized too late
I'm so sorry......i will make sure my hubby vote and I will go with him!!!

If anyone deserves to win its Jeff Ooi! Definitely! I hope he wings Jelutong and make Penang comparable to Singapore.... with him, i believe it will happen.

I read this little story from thescarfer.....and i'd like to share it with you here to end my post........Vote WISELY!!!

While walking down the street one day a Malaysian Boleh Minister is tragically hit by a truck and dies. His soul arrives in heaven and is met by St. Peter at the entrance.

“Welcome to heaven,” says St. Peter. “Before you settle in, it seems there is a problem. We seldom see a high official around these parts, you see, so we’re not sure what to do with you.”

“No problem, just let me in,” says the man.

“Well, I’d like to, but I have orders from higher up. What we’ll do is have you spend one day in hell and one in heaven. Then you can choose where to spend eternity.”

“Really, I have made up my mind. I want to be in heaven,” says the Yang Berhormat

“I’m sorry, but we have our rules,” says St. Peter. And with that, St. Peter escorts him to the elevator and he goes down, down, down to hell.

The doors open and he finds himself in the middle of a green golf course. In the distance is a clubhouse and standing in front of it are all his friends and other politicians who had worked with him.

Everyone is very happy and dressed in the finest batik there is. They run to greet him, shake his hand, and reminisce about the good times they had while getting rich at the expense of the people. They play a friendly game of golf and then indulge themselves on lobsters, caviar and the most expensive food there is. Also present is the devil, who really is a very friendly guy who has a good time dancing and telling jokes. They are having such a good time that before he realizes it, it is time to go.

Everyone gives him a hearty farewell and waves while the elevator rises. The elevator goes up, up, up and the door reopens on heaven where St. Peter is waiting for him. “Now it’ s time to visit heaven.” So, 24 hours pass with the Yang Berhormat joining a group of contented souls moving from cloud to cloud, playing the harp and singing. They have a good time and, before he realizes it, the 24 hours have gone by and St.Peter returns.

“Well, then, you’ve spent a day in hell and another in heaven. Now choose your eternity.”

The Yang Berhormat reflects for a minute, then he answers: “Well, I would never have said it before, I mean heaven has been delightful, but I think Ai yam better off in hell.”

So St. Peter escorts him to the elevator and he goes down, down, down to hell.

Now the doors of the elevator open and he’s in the middle of a barren land covered with waste and garbage. He sees all his friends, dressed in rags, picking up the trash and putting it in black bags as more trash falls from above. The devil comes over to him and puts his arm around his shoulder.

“I don’t understand,” stammers the Yang Berhormat. “Yesterday I was here and there was a golf course and clubhouse, and we ate lobster and caviar, drank champagne, and danced and had a great time. Now there’s just a wasteland full of garbage and my friends look miserable. What happened?”

The devil looks at him, smiles and says, “Yesterday we were campaigning.”

“Today you voted.”

Elianto Concealer

I love concealers....i feel that a concealer is a must for people with imperfect skin.
Foundation alone just wouldn't do it.

Normally after moisturizer, I will dab on some concealer on spots that i would like to cover. Such spots includes pimples, acne scars, freckles....the dark under eye, eye bags...etc.

After concealer will then come the foundation. I will even-out the foundation with a sponge. I used to only use my fingers rather than using a sponge....but recently, i've discovered that you can actually have better coverage and more even spread by using a sponge as compared to the fingers.
But of course after this step, the imperfections that we tried to cover up earlier with the concealer will start to show up again.....not to worry.......cover up again with the concealer after foundation.

I normally work on the blush after this, then work on the eyes....usually a simple eye liner for me. But if i have more time, i'd put some colors(very seldom) and then mascara. I have a considerably large eye so the liner does it for me, but for those will smaller eyes... Mascara will open them up even more. Lastly, face power to set and I'm all good. If i can still see the spots, i would at this point dab on a bit more of my concealer. See how important concealer is to me?!!

teehee....

So anyway, below is the new concealer that I am currently using. It is from Elianto.
I think I bought it for about RM22 (if not mistaken).
I bought the color in Medium (#01). I only saw 3 numbers available at the counter #0, #1 and #2.

I usually use Medium color. This works for me....but i would like it if they have slightly more shades to choose from. I would probably try #2 next to see if the color matches better because I find #1 a little on the lighter tone. But after blending.....it is fine.

Next, i think this concealer is so fragrant! it smells good! haha....
I did not realise the smell comes from this concealer.....so after I made myself up and went out....i kept smelling some nice fragrance from somewhere and couldn't pinpoint where it came from!
Only after many rounds of using did i realize the pleasant smell came from this concealer! do'uh....haha......sorry the senses on my nose is a little malfunction due to sinusitis. kekeke
(do tell me if u have use this and if it does have a nice smell? im still not 100% certain it comes from this tub.......)

Though the tub seems small.....and the price not exactly cheap, but i find that it does last pretty long so it is kinda worth it.

Am I being bitter?

I never celebrated valentines day.
Initially i decided to write a "i hate vday" post about how i hate valentines day. Then i decided against it because...hehe....i dont want to be a scrooge and screams bah-humbug over every occasion.

But, i never bothered with valentines day because I always think that valentines day is over-rated and makes people spend unnecessary money. However, having said that...I am fine with people making an effort to say "i love you" or buy little gifts to the person that matters most to them......it can be to your husband, wife, girlfriend, boyfriend, mother, friend.....etc...

The hubby is Mr.Practical....he never does anything romantic for me other than the first year when he tried to woo me.....gah..........men.
I never receive anything from him for valentines...Not that i want him to buy anything also....but sometimes we don't need expensive gifts to feel appreciated. Just a simple little surprise will make the day. You dont have to buy roses....just bring me to the beach for a stroll or make me a handmade card. My heart will just melt!!!

sigh.......i guess, i've learned to accept the fact that he will never do such for me..... He is never like that......even for my birthday he would rather bring me to the mall and buy me what i want instead of giving me a surprise.

I guess.....if i ever wanted anything romantic, i'd have to be the one to do it......just like the time when I planed for a romantic escapade and booked a hotel in which i kidnapped him to. haha......
What to do......i think i would make a great boyfriend/husband! I can be hopelessly romantic if i want to.

Well, why dont you head over to Tiffany's and take a look for yourself....
Though do bare in mind that most of the items here are Sterling Silver only! well, it is actually the brand name you are paying the price for la.......for platinum or white gold, the price is even steeper. ;)

I plan to go on a holiday to the US

If i am to plan for a holiday this year. The targeted destination will definitely be the US.

I've only been to the US once when I was 8 years old. Though I still have bits and pieces of memories in my mind, i do wish I can go on another tour to the US. And this time, i would like to go to the East coast of America.

Places that i would love to visit would be Orlando!! Because it is named to be Theme park Capital of the word for a reason....Disneyland!!!! yes yes....i love disneyland though i've been to 2 before, i would love to visit disneyland again and this time with hubby dearest....it'll be fun!! And since this year is the year of the Mickey Mouse....we should visit him at his house ma....right?!!

Of course, since the value of USD against MYR have drop significantly to about 3.2 now, I think it would be a great time to do some serious shopping over at New York!! where else!!

The hubby have uncles in Canada, so we are also planning to visit Canada too!! One of the must visit places in Canada to me must be the Niagara Falls! I've always wanted to visit the falls.......

I imagine the view would be so breathtaking.... I wonder how much would flights to Canada be.

I really hope we can make this holiday happen this year. Fingers crossed.

The Greed and Glutton Spirit

I never liked Chinese New Year. Ever since i was a little girl. I hate Chinese New Year!!! hate it....
ever since i came head-on with a girl that wore EXACTLY the same outfit as i was.....i hated it with a vengeance. And i never like shopping for new clothes during Chinese New Year for the fear of having to endure the similar awkward situation as such. Call me vain but I loath being caught wearing the same outfit.....it peeves me till no end.

OK, that was the vain pot reason of why i hate CNY.

Secondly, I hated CNY ever since I was young and my uncles just have to invite the Lion dance troupe over to our house....why can't he do it at his house lah! sheesh.....as a little girl, i had this great fear of the Lian dance troupe and every time they came it traumatize me till no end. I often ran across the house to my uncle's house(neighbor) and hide under the stairs till the whole pili pala ruckus was over.

3rdly, We usually go back to my grandparents place every year whilst growing up. And in Penang, every single house lites GIANT HUMONGOUS jossticks! Every single freaking house OK! and the smell......and oh the smoke was unbearable. I couldn't endure it because it effected my breathing and it sort of causes me to suffer the whole time... runny nose, hard of breathing...etc...

4thly, I hate CNY because all the chinese suddenly become possessed. Possessed with the spirit of Greed(money money money) and Gluttony(eat eat eat)....

5th, The weather is super duper uber HOT HOT HOT!!!

OK yes this is a bitchy post because I'm stuck at home and am super bored.....

To those who celebrates, Happy CNY dong dong chiang.....

Signing Out,

Fashionasia 2008!!

Elianto Nail Color for this Chinese New Year!!

I think elianto is a fabulous counter beauty product because the price is reasonable and the quality is quite ok.

This CNY i've decided to put on some nail colors. And i'm loving this dark color from Elianto n No.#32 called X Rose.
Its dark bronze and shimmery. Only RM5!!! Cheap cheap.....
well, if you have the time and talents, this will make a great base coat for some nail-art too. Just stick some blings and i'm sure it will look gorgeous.

The other color here is called Milky Coffee No.# 12. I love the nude color of it, makes my nails look so gorgeous but not too striking. I like to apply this one on normal days...

Blogging at 6am....something rare

Hey! I just woke up at 5.am.
Had some breakfast and made a cup of hot milo....took a shower......
and now i'm here in front of my laptop blogging.
wicked....
because i slept at 10pm and now i can't sleep anymore!
I love the feeling of being awake and doing some work in the wee hours of the morning.... especially between 2am to 6am
the stillness of the night.......
the quietness in the morning.........
nobody around as if all the other humans in this world are non-existence.....such a bliss....

:)
oh.....and i had a bloglebrity moment when koolgeek told me he spotted me and the hubby at TheCurve last sunday.... heeeheeee.........*waves* next time say hi ok!!! unless i look unruly as if just jump out from the bed...........then dont say hi and pretend u didnt see me la.....kekekeke

OMG....Chinese New Year is only 2 days away! so soooon.....

I'm just rambling away nonsense.......

oh....and i received the results of my check-up. Pap smear was ok.......normal.
My hormone test turn out to be ok........except for some slight imbalance(one being higher than the other). I also dunno what it means because the doctor didn't mention what were the effects and so on....i probably should have asked but i was kinda rushing....

But the blood pressure is still on the high-side after the second test. I have to be very careful of this. I need to watch the salt. No more "nga ku"(fried arrow-head) for me.

Other than that, I have a clean bill of health. Thank God.
