I've often been asked if one should curl their lashes before applying mascara or after applying the mascara.
I admit that at some point i was so confused myself as different professional make-up artists told me different stories. But i remembered when i went for make-up lessons years ago they thought me to curl the lashes after application.
Being a fashionista i've done my fare share of studies to know that the "actual" way to use a curler is BEFORE the mascara application. I've also tried to google and found that in About.com they say so the same. Sooooo, my answer is BEFORE.
The reason? because:
1. If you put on the mascara first and then curl, the curler(tool) will be smudged with mascara thus spoiling the tool.
2. It could spoil your lashes as the mascara makes the lashes tougher and hard and if you press the curler too hard, it could spoil your lashes as in it may break if your lashes are brittle.
HOWEVER, every professional make-up artist knows for a fact that curling before putting on the mascara does not work. Serious!!! unless you're using heated curler (those operated on battery). So for a better effect, most artists will curl before and then apply the mascara, then let it dry a little. Then curl the lashes again with the curler but remember not too hard. This works best.
Personally i choose to curl after application of the mascara as i find that it works better that way. Oh well, what can i say. There is no rule in make-up, you've gotta experiment and follow what you think suits you the best. I'm probably breaking the rules here but what the heck, just like how i shave my legs against the grain all the time when i know very well that i shouldnt. LoL.
ps. This is not a fashion tip. I'm just speaking from experience here. Follow at your own risk.
Fashionasia owns 2 eyelash curler. Will show you tomorrow when i take a pic of it.
Have a jolly weekend people!!! yippieee!!

I also don't like curling my lashes after putting mascara..takut my lashes all fall or crinkle =P But nowadays, I've been curling it before and after I put my mascara. It's nice and it STAYS =P
wow, do those things work? i mean eyelash curlers? what if i don't want to use mascara? any suggestions? my lashes are so straight!
and btw, doesn't the rule say shave leg hairs against hair growth? unless you're plucking eyebrows, then its in the direction of hair growth. not that i do either...
confused already. straighten me out please....
what about mascara, then curl, then more mascara? i do that but use a very light hand with both mascara applications.
I shave my legs against the grain also but make sure that I use body scrub to scrub my legs to prevent ingrown hair next time. So far so good. Heehee. Smoother lah if shave against the grain.
I usually curl before and yes it doenst quite work. But I'm fine with straight lashes! As long as the mascara is good, it'll look good :)
Actually I think it depends on the length of your lashes too. My sister tried curling hers but it never works but as for me, I curl once and press it for 15 seconds and the curl last even without mascara..but of course once wet..not curly anymore
